Top-quality coffees from different regions of the world have been hand-selected and refined by talented master roasters. We attach particular importance to "Moka D'Ethiopie". Ethiopia is also considered to be the country of origin of coffee. The first plants are said to have been cultivated in the highlands as early as the 8th century. According to tradition, a shepherd by the name of Kaldi discovered the attractive properties of coffee. One of his goats jumped up after eating cherries/berries from a coffee tree. This led to the widespread cultivation of coffee and its use by monks to keep awake during their long religious services. Today, Ethiopia is best known for its moka coffee. Ethiopian coffee was exported around the world from the port of "Mocha" in Yemen from the 15th century onwards. This is where the name Moka comes from.
Over the centuries, three specific growing regions have become established and are known the world over for their unique and incredibly delicious grains. These are the Harrar region, the Wallaga region and the Sidamo region. The Sidamo region is in southern Ethiopia and also produces the beans for this aromatic pod. The exact name of the place is 'Yirgacheffe'. Among roasters around the world, Yirgacheffe beans are considered the crème de la crème of Ethiopian speciality coffees. It is grown at an altitude of over 2000 metres in unique climatic conditions. Nutrient-rich soils and a cool, humid climate with high levels of UV radiation guarantee a unique flavour profile that exists nowhere else, even in the coffee country of Ethiopia:
A pronounced fruitiness with notes of stone fruit and ripe orange is complemented by floral aromas of tea and bergamot. An extraordinarily nuanced coffee, whose taste is hard to surpass. On the palate, this coffee is smooth and pleasant. But at the same time, these exotic notes dominate. Ethiopian Mocha is so complex that each time you taste it, you discover new and different nuances. This is a special feature, especially for a Single Origin coffee.
